Brenda made and donated fleece blankets for Carver Project Community Connect, an organization that serves residents who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Brenda affirmed that her project emphasized the belief that persons are special, precious, and have dignity that demands respect.

Brenda involved the children from her daughter’s 5th grade class who helped make the fleece blankets. She hoped her project would teach the 5th graders “not be afraid to get involved when they passionately believe in an idea that will help the world.” Brenda and her daughter’s 5th grade class tied a total of 4,000 knots on 20 blankets, or roughly 200 knots per blanket!

Brenda reflected on what she learned from doing a civic engagement project,  “Initiating a project on my own has been a very good learning experience for me. I am usually a follower not a leader.” In conclusion, “it has made me confident that if I have a plan I can do it.”
