Lucas was initially very nervous about organizing his own activity! But, with a little ingenuity, he came up with the perfect project! It captured his interests, wasn’t too difficult, and still made a difference in people’s lives.

Lucas decided to collect people’s old Dvd’s and Blu Rays to donate to service people serving on US Navy ships who can’t access streaming while on board the ships. Lucas sent out emails to friends and shared information on social media. He then set up collection bins at the movie theater where he worked. Check out how much he was able to collect!

Want to try to organize an activity like Lucas? Here are his tips for YOU:

  • Don’t be afraid of the project – as an introvert I was really nervous to do it but I didn’t find it as anxiety inducing as I had expected.
  • Start earlier than you think you need to – It doesn’t hurt to get your plan set awhile ahead of time and get everything organized a week or two before you even plan to start doing your actual project
  • Make an aspect of the project something you care about – It’ll help you connect with your project in a deeper way and help you be more motivated to do it
  • It really is a project worth your time – To me a lot of projects for school seem like busy work or just a way to switch up how we learn class material but this and every Experiment in Ethics is truly a great way to do some good for you and your community
  • It’ll show you how a little effort can go a long way – In my project it didn’t feel like I had put in too much effort, but in the long run it was really exciting to see how much good you can do.
