For Riley’s Organized Activity, she knew that she wanted to spread awareness about the dangers of eating disorders, mental illness, and overall to spread a positive message of hope to those who may be affected by mental illness. With her goal in mind, Riley decided to plan a walk for awareness around the track at the Spring Lake Park High school. She organized the walk by making posters, flyers and a donation box while receiving help from her family, friends, and the girls from the high school lacrosse team which she coached. Donations were accepted during the walk, and everything earned was donated to the National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA). Posters and flyers around the track contained information about eating disorders and the number for a help line along with their open hours. One fact shared was that 10 million men and 20 million women develop an eating disorder at some point in their lives.

How does this relate to ethics? Riley explained, “In ethics class, we studied Care Ethics which tells us to attend to a moral problem with care and concern. As a coach, I worry about my players and hope that they are all healthy and safe.”
